Lefty thumb throttles
Alright, the first thing that might come to mind is why? They make throttles for ATV's and other sport vehicles already, there just for the right hand. Well that's great and all, but what if you couldn't fully use your right hand, then what? Well that's the case for me, at birth I had a bracheoplexis injury that effected my right arm. They were able to give me some control of the arm, but its still severely limited. So this injury makes it very difficult to operate an ATV, but heck, you think that is going to stop me? It all started about my sophomore-junior year of high school. I had just talked my parents into letting me get a 4 wheeler. It was a 1999 Yamaha warrior 350, and dang it was fun. But I still wanted a left handed throttle, so I did some research on line. There are some things that I have found out there, like the goldfinger left handed throttle. It looked like it could work for me so I bought it. After it came I found out that this wasn't going to work for me. Its almost impossible to use and operate the hand clutch at the same time, and it was uncomfortable for me. So I wondered to myself, why cant they just make one like all the other throttle, just mirrored for left handed people, I mean, I can't be the only one out there! So me being me, I said to heck with it, I will just make my own! This is where the thumb throttle v1 came from. I just wanted something that would allow me to get out there and ride. After it was built it was wonderful! There were a few flaws with it that I didn't like, like the size/shape and that it wasn't painted. So i decided, well, I'll just make an improved version. Somewhere in the design process, I came to the realization, that there are a lot of other people that could benefit from this. Amputees, people with right handed injuries, or heck, even just people that are left handed. So I decided I would try to make 10 so I could have some to sell to the public. Now i'm currently working on a 3rd version to sell to the public. This will be a lot bigger production run, somewhere around 150 throttles. I also hope to make adapters to accept throttle cables from Polaris, Kawasaki, can-am, and other main brand ATV's / Dirt bikes.
